“A great pick for our three night stay in Halifax. Our room was spacious, airy, and clean with a very comfortable bed, pillows, and duvet. The bathroom was just down the hall - like the rest of the house, clean and welcoming to guests. The house was pretty quiet while we were there and we enjoyed relaxing mornings before heading out to explore the city. Similarly, we appreciated the ease of quiet evenings at the end the day's adventures. Ken's communication was clear and prompt and he welcomed us with tea, oat cakes, and an orientation to the Halifax city map. “My husband and I really enjoyed our weekend stay with Ken. Ken is laid back, easy going and quite a people person. He is open to conversation or will allow you the space to relax, unwind and do your own thing. Overall, he provided an energy that was positive, hospitable and welcoming. Ken also does a great job of providing insight into Halifax history, art and culture. The room we stayed in was comfortable, and it was a unique experience staying in a home built around 1890, with an extensive array of folk art on the walls. It was extremely convenient being close to downtown too. Ken's oatcakes are a real treat and we purchased some to take home with us. I feel the people that would get the most bene+t out of their stay with Ken, are those open to good conversation and wanting to know valuable insight into Halifax. Thanks for everything Ken! ”

Ken was very friendly and we spent many hours talking either after we got home in the evening or before we left in the morning. “Wonderful hosts. They are very welcoming and they didn't impose any house rules. Ken occasionally leaves yummy oat cookies he bakes on the table. I had a short stay in their beautiful house but I think I made new friends in Halifax. Ken is an active listener. He's very calm and nice person to talk to. I was invited twice for dinner during my 7 day stay. Definitely recommend this place.”

“My son and I have spent a couple of days in Halifax. The hosts are so nice, their house is so welcoming: you are as if you were at home. The place to go if you are in Halifax. It is so quiet.
– Magali, Mallemort, France
“Stayed at Hotel Vajrayana for 4 days. It was a great experience as the hosts welcomed me with a hearty dinner and delicious homemade oat cakes on the first day! The house is situated in a quiet and peaceful neighbourhood. There are a number of eateries within 10 to 15 mins walking distance from the accommodation as well. The room is very simple and neat with a shared washroom on the other side of the corridor. It is really a good place for a short stay in Halifax. The bed is comfortable and the small decorations around and within the house provides a homely and lively atmosphere. Thank you very much for your great care and hospitality! Hope to see you again when I have the chance to travel to Halifax the next time. ”

“We were warmly welcomed into Kenâs house. The hosts are interesting folks to meet and converse with. The bed is comfortable, sharing the bathroom is easy and having full access to the kitchen to be able to cook the foods needed for a special diet was so much appreciated. It was fun to sit around the long beautiful table and meet and chat with the many folks who were a part of the week â including other Airbnb guests as well as Ken and Pamâs friends. It is walking distance to Citadel Hill and from there to downtown and the waterfront. We loved walking in the area and managed to be on Citadel Hill a couple of times for the noon time cannon and changing of the guards!! And last but not least, the oatcakes are yummy!”

“Ken is a very generous, relaxed host. He provides a welcoming, and comfortable home on a quiet peaceful street, walking distance to downtown. There is an opportunity to meet other travelers, if you are interested, for conversation, meals and cribbage. Ken kindly opened his home to myself and my dog, allowing for a home base to visit with my son while in Halifax. Ken's dog, Gesar is also relaxed with other dogs and shared his large yard for exploration and play. Thank to Ken for a wonderful stay and great game of cribbage. “We were made very welcome by both Ken, Pam & various family members and friends who came by during our stay. We were encouraged to treat the place as a home away from home & shared some meals with the family. We were also able to borrow bicycles. The location was slightly out of town centre but had good restaurants & supermarkets nearby & was walkable for everything we planned to see & do in town. We also had the opportunity to meet & socialise with some other guests during our stay. On the whole, a very positive experience & a very welcoming household.”

– Gerald, Asheville, NC
“This was our first time using AirBnB and if any of the other hosts are half as lovely as Ken, it certainly won't be our last. Ken was welcoming through email and in person. The room was bright and clean and we quickly felt at home in all of the shared spaces, including the shady backyard. Waking up to the smell of freshly baked oatcakes is something we could easily get used to! The overall friendly, open and zen-like vibe of Ken's place was just what we were looking for. It was a short walk (or, when we were feeling tired after a long day, cab ride) to most of what we wanted to see and do. Ken also had some great recommendations for local restaurants. ”
– Katie, Toronto
“We loved staying at Ken's house. It was like another home for us. Ken let me borrow some books to read and I cooked some greens from his garden too. We had a mini dinner with him and his family too. My husband and I enjoyed conversations with Ken and Pam. It was like a retreat for us. Beautiful stay! and of course yummy genuine novascotia oatcakes made by Ken. Simple yet elegant stay ! ”

We had such a nice family feeling there... Everybody was helping us to buy a car etc. And waking up with the bakery smell, it's just the best!
Really respectful people!”

“Ken and Pam welcomed us with open arms. The room had the basics and everything we needed for the stay. The neighborhood is great and a perfect location to walk all over Halifax. The real treat here is Ken and Pam ... do take them up on any snack or beverage they provide as thoughtful conversation will ensue. Also make sure to spend time outside on the deck, the chipmunks and ravens were chatty as can be. This place has amazing energy and phenomenal hosts. ”
– Jessie, Minneapolis, MN
“Great, quiet, residential neighborhood. My wife and I (seniors) stayed for 5 days, in the month of June/16. Excellent climate. We did almost all of the walking tours. The house is 3 blocks from a Supermarket.âOur host Ken has made us comfortable. We were very welcomed and felt at ease. Ken makes Oatcakes, which are really tasty (the best we've ever had). The dog in the house does not interfere or bother the guests. It was a great stay. Thank you to friends Ken and Pam.â”

The house is beautiful and cozy, situated close enough to nearly everything a guest could hope to see and, what's more, Ken and the fam are more than willing to facilitate your +nding the best Halifax (and area) have to offer. It was a resoundingly fantastic visit, and this was in no small part due to the kindness of Ken, the family and maritimers in general. ”

“I stayed at Hotel Vajrayana on Moran for a with four coworkers while attending a conference in Halifax. We had the entire house to ourselves. Ken was a very nice host, who was very responsive with questions I had prior to booking and made me felt welcomed before I even showed up. While I never met Ken (I was always out when he came by), my coworkers had nothing but nice things to say about him, and he also brought us oatcakes! The home is beautiful, and was a lot more spacious than the pictures made it seem. Even though there is only one washroom, the +ve of us made it work. The location is great; it's a 2 minute walk to the park, and ~15 minute walk to downtown. I highly recommend his place! ”
– Poly, Niagara Falls

“Ken was a wonderful host. We and another couple arrived on Saturday evening. We all chatted the evening away with a bottle Ken's own label wine and his homemade oat cakes. Next morning he cooked up a batch of pancakes for everyone to share. A regular Sunday morning treat for his son, which we could share in. The room was comfy. One floor up if that may be a problem for anyone ”

“Ken's hospitality can't be improved. Arriving in heavy rain, I was immediately offered a hot tea and a bowl of his homemade cookies. Ken is laisser fair, so if you are looking for conviviality you can find it, you prefer to walk your own paths, also OK. Room was cozy, bathroom clean and the distance from the center, exactly as described. Conclusion if Halifax then Cliftonroad. ”
– Greta, Dietramszell, Germany
“We had an absolutely wonderful long-weekend in Halifax thanks, in no small part to Ken and his roommate Brian. Ken’s place offered a quiet, peaceful home away from home with a zen-like atmosphere. He and Brian were excellent hosts and provided us with a great little morning start of coffee, fruit, and Ken’s very own Nova Scotia Oatcakes (we probably ate about 20!) as well as some great suggestions for things to see and do around Halifax. They were also nice enough to treat us to some great local beers and an excellent afternoon of conversation! All in, Ken’s spot is exactly as advertised and a very pleasant place to stay. It does come with one very sweet older black lab (just in case you’re allergic...but he’s so cute!) who stays outside mostly or in his little cubby. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone!”
– Stephanie, Montreal
“It was fun staying with these guys. One doesn't expect inclusivity but if you are comfortable with that these people are magic. Respectful, helpful and considerate hosts. ”
– Bernadette, New South Wales, Australia
“A lovely home in the heart of Halifax. Ken was kind and very welcoming into his home. I would highly recommend Ken's place for short- or long-term visitors.”
– Ajay, Chicago
“I had a wonderful time staying at Hotel Vajrayana. Situated right beside the commons and on the cusp of the north end/downtown, this is the ideal location to stay for a visit! The best parts of Halifax are within walking distance, as well as all the necessities like grocery stores, etc. Ken's house is beautiful, peaceful, and charming. You can tell his family has put lots of love into the home! My host, Alister, was easy going and very accommodating. He put up with me coming home late at night during the week and waking up the dog, which I am super thankful for :) Otherwise the bedroom/bathroom was amazing, very spacious, however perhaps a tad chilly. As the house is older, this is to be expected, so just remember to bring an extra sweater and slippers! 5/5 would absolutely stay here again. ”

“Ken was really hospitable and warm! I was late to arrive due to some transport delays, but he stayed up to welcome me into his clean and neat house. :-) he also offered me homemade oatcakes (which are amazing btw.) He is thoughtful in making sure that guests have everything they need, and was generous enough to offer me his bikes to cycle around town. He also helped me to do some research on tours to attractions I was intending to visit! The location has nearby eateries and convenience stores. It is also really accessible to downtown Halifax, and the neighbourhood is safe. I found myself walking mostly because the main attractions were nearby. I would definitely recommend this listing to anyone looking for a good Halifax experience!”
– Alexandra, Singapore

– Gráinne, London, United Kingdom
“Ken was an amazing host and so welcoming once we arrived! As this was our first airbnb experience, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of service ken offered during our stay. The location was beautiful to say the least, and the neighbourhood was close enough to the downtown core that travel was not an issue. The house itself was small but comfortable, with an open back yard and sitting area perfect for relaxing on spring and summer days. I would definitely recommend this airbnb location to anyone looking for a quaint but exciting stay in the city of Halifax. Ken has most certainly earn the title of 'super-host' through both his attitude and quality of service! P.S. I also hope you like oatcakes (you'll get the joke once you stay there)! ”
– Rekha, Toronto
“My boyfriend and I fully enjoyed the hospitality that was offered. Such a quiet road considering we were only a block away from busy Robie Street. The room is an excellent size for two people to stay and work in and it was nice and sunny. Ken surprised us on our last day by making us brunch. We had a lovely chat over the blueberry crepes and are looking forward to our next visit to the Hotel Vajrayana. ”
– Vanessa, Summerside, PEI

“I could not have wished for any better place to stay in Halifax. Ken and Pam are the most welcoming, kind and relaxed hosts I have ever met. The house is conveniently located on a quiet street in a good neighborhood, about 20 min walk from Dalhousie Uni and downtown. The room was great, so was the house in general. I'm looking forward to staying again when coming back to Halifax next time. ”
– Joerg, Switzerland
“My stay at Hotel Vajrayana was fantastic! Ken and his family were absolutely wonderful. He reached out in advance, made sure I knew where I was going, and made me feel like a welcomed member of the family. I had a wonderful time getting to know everyone, including the other houseguest. The home is comfortable, full of interesting art, with a great kitchen (we cooked a delicious meal together). And Ken shared his wonderful oatcakes! I would absolutely stay again if back in Halifax and highly recommend this listing. ”
– Veronica, Seattle
“We only stayed two nights at Hotel Vajrayana but we had a really good time. The place was very clean and spacious and we were allowed to help ourselves to anything we might need. Ken himself is very nice as well, and very generous, and he even offered to pick us up from the Halifax train station. When we arrived late at night, he invited us to have lunch with him and a friend he had over. Very good talking and we will definitely come back, when we're in Halifax again. ”
– Maximilian, Mainz, Germany
“Ken was an excellent host. He immediately welcomed me with tea upon arrival, and I had a very nice chat with him and some of his family that stopped by to visit that afternoon. I felt very much at home there, and quite comfortable in my bright and spacious room. Additionally, Ken welcomed my small dog, Jasper, to come stay in his home as well, so I didn't have to put him in boarding for my visit to Halifax. This was such a bonus! I loved having my pup there to explore the city with, and this saved me a lot of money, too. All in all, I really enjoyed my stay in Ken's home, and would highly recommend Hotel Vajrayana to others, especially if they want to feel like they are visiting with friends.”
– Sarah, Fredericton
“One of the best airbnb stays I've ever had! Ken, Pam, Brian and Gesar are the best hosts ever. They took me in like an old friend, invited me to a home cooked dinner and breakfast and thought me how to play "scopa". I will remember their hospitality for a
long time to come. I will definitely stay at their place again. Thank you all again for making me feel welcomed.”

Ken is warmly friendly; we had many lovely talks and he invited me for the Christmas dinner with his family and friends since he learnt that I'm new to Halifax and from a dieerent culture. Also, the house has prefect location: accessible to main streets and close to groceries. It's a pleasure to have Ken as a friend. Thanks a lot Ken”

– Tracy, Limoges, Ontario
“Oh my gosh! After a 10 hour drive, I walked in the door and was immediately invited to play a game of cribbage with Ken, Leanne and Brian. Thanks to one of the housemates, we counted our hands in French. Ken's Organic Nova Scotia oatcakes were on offer along with a choice of beverages. The conversation was amiable and interesting. I was invited to join them for a mussel feed the next night. When I explained that I was taking my daughter and her 2 roommates out for dinner the next night, Ken immediately invited them to join the feed. Alas my daughter was more interested in going to a greek restaurant. I think it was about midnight before I headed up to my bedroom which was located at the front of the house on the second floor. The room is large enough for a queen(?) size futon which was comfortable. The room is not large, but enough space for me. The bathroom was down the hall and was generously sized and had a washer and dryer. The kitchen was where the action was. An addition, which featured a long harvest table to sit around and a couch, had been added onto the back of the kitchen. Parking was available in the street, 24/7 is what Ken said. I did not read the parking signs carefully, but I did not get a ticket. The location in the North End was excellent. Sobeys supermarket was nearby and downtown was maybe a 15-20 minute walk. Ken was exceedingly generous in all ways. He was helpful and relaxed. An excellent host. I strongly recommend his place. Ken thank you so much for your hospitality. ”
– Pays, Falmouth, Maine

Thanks for a great stay Ken and keep up the great work!”
– Julia, Ottawa
“My boyfriend and I had a fantastic stay at Ken's place. We loved the relaxed, open vibe, and there was always someone friendly around to chat with. Housemate Lee Ann gave us a bunch of great advice about things to check out in Cape Breton (Meat Cove turned out to be the highlight of our trip — thanks, Lyann!). We were also really happy with the location. There are a bunch of good spots to eat/drink in easy walking distance. We couldn't have hoped for a more comfortable place to start our trip!”
– Noreen, Toronto
“Ken is an excellent host. I will de+nitely try to book with him again when I return to Halifax.”
– Stephen, Cambridge, MA
“Ken is a cut above the rest host. What you get here is more than just a room, but a memorable experience with the entire house. I started my stay with a conversation with Ken getting acquainted with each other over coeee/tea and his incredible oatcakes. We followed that up with a stroll around the charming neighborhood to meet local shops (charcuterie, boutique grocers, and dee dee's ice cream). I got to roam the city solo afterwards for several hours, and I walked into a steak and quinoa dinner with the rest of the crew in the house. We apped the 1st night with lessons on cribbage and local drinks like homemade wine and dark and stormy's. I can't guarantee anyone's future stay will be as fortunate as mine, but I have no doubt these guys won't leaving you feeling any less. I had an early morning shuttle to catch to the airport which I as running late for. They ran out the door after me and insisted on driving me to ensure I made. I've found a second home when I come back to Halifax. Can't wait to see your cakes across retailers in America Ken. Next time I visit, it's my turn to throw down in the kitchen for some steaks followed by a proper rematch in cribbage! ”
– Derricho
“Ken is a lovely and welcoming host. The house is always full of life and feels very much like your home as soon as you've put your bags down. ”
– Kristin, Dublin, Ireland
“Ficar na casa do Ken foi uma excelente experiência! Meu marido e eu estávamos preocupados porque trazíamos conosco a nossa gata, mas no +nal deu tudo certo. A casa é bem colorida e agradável, e o Ken é um excelente an+trião. Apesar de termos +cado pouquíssimo tempo, deu para aproveitar a boa companhia. A casa é bem localizada, o que ajudou bastante, já que tínhamos que resolver muitas pendências em pouco tempo e pudemos fazer tudo a pé. Além disso, é limpa, arejada, confortável e tem duas redes de internet. Ken fez muito mais do que se espera de um an+trião, e nós +camos muito felizes em sermos recebidos com tanta gentileza e simpatia.
Staying at Ken's place was an excellent experience! My husband and I were worried because we brought our cat with us, but in the end everything went well. The house is very colorful and pleasant, and Ken is an excellent host. Even though we stayed for a very short time, we were able to enjoy the good company. The house is well located, which helped a lot, since we had to solve many issues in a short time and we were able to do everything on foot. In addition, it is clean, airy, comfortable and has two internet networks. Ken did much more than what is expected of a host, and we were very happy to be received with such kindness and sympathy.”

“This is one of the most wonderful experiences that my boyfriend and I have ever had using Airbnb. Ken is such a lovey person, and he makes you feel so at home. His dog Geasar is also an absolute darling. We stayed for a month and our only regret was that we couldn't stay for another! ”

“Ken was very welcoming. The 'breakfasts' (I slept in a lot) were delicious. The household has a overall feel of calmness and spaciousness. My room was very comfortable and the bathroom was conveniently located almost directly across from my room. Though I didn't have time to do laundry, I was surprised and impressed that it was available. There's a wonderful collection of art all around the house too, which I loved. Thanks!! ”

“Ken and his warm, colorful home were such a perfect start to our Nova Scotia trip. We arrived on a rainy Sunday and were tired and a bit cranky, and one of Ken's housemates, a charming guy, was just +nishing up a delicious dinner prep and asked us to join him. Then ken came in with and we stayed at the dinner table for lovely, wide- ranging and worthwhile discussions. Ken is an honest, interesting and super generous fellow and frankly if we could've rearranged our plans I'd have stayed another night. Hard to depart when just enjoying where we were! Oatcakes galore, baked by Ken, and scrumptious! He's got a lot going on, and it's all fun to explore...”

“Our first Airbnb experience was comfort itself. We were warmly welcomed and introduced to this uniquely embracing sturdy home. That's it; we felt immediately at home. Ken encouraged us to explore the neighbourhood and the city, oeering helpful practical advice. We slept well, found everything we needed, enjoyed everyone we met and their stories. We loved the oatcakes. They have to be the best on the planet. Thanks to you, Ken, your friends, your family (including your noble pet) for sharing so much with us. ”

“We went into this house as strangers and leave as family. We've traveled a lot, but in few places we've felt such warmth. This place is magical in its love, its acceptance and its curiosity about everything human. We couldn't have chosen a place more perfect to welcome us into our new lives in Halifax. Thank you so much for your hospitality. We leave your house with precious gifts of friendship and wine.”

“Had a good stay at Hotel Vajrayana. Ken was at home to welcome me in. He gave me the space and privacy but was available to talk too. Ken took me to the Halifax Library and the Farmers market along with his son. Felt welcomed. 2 mins to bus route and short walk to downtown. ”

“Pretty interesting place to stay. In a nice neighbourhood, and nothing was too far away. Didn't experience much of the house expect the bedroom, and it was standard. All things considered it was pretty much exactly what we were looking for. ”
